I really like documenting our days and looking back on them a few months later. Our lives are constantly changing with a little boy thrown in the mix. Here is a look at one of those days a few weeks ago.
4 days a week I work and 3 days a week I am home with my
little boy. I think it gives me the best
of both worlds. My hard work from
college is paying off and I get to spend some quality time with my favorite
little boy.
This is what our typical Friday looks like (Ellison is 10.5
months old)
Ellison is still in the bed with us for most of the night so
he wakes up around 6:30-7:00. I try to
nurse him but he mostly just wants to crawl around the bed and clap his
hands.
I get up and we head to his room for a diaper change. I usually sing a song to him during this time. He pretty much thinks I am the next America Idol…he gives me pretty good feedback. When he doesn’t like a song he just pees on me J Then we head to kitchen for a little grub (usually puffs, crèmes, and a waffle). He mostly eats the puffs and crèmes and throws the waffle on the floor for Tucker. I pump during this time and get my coffee and cereal together. Around 8 we head to the den to play play play. We dump the toy basket over and go crazy until bottle time at 8:45-9:00. He eats a 7 ounce bottle and then it is play play play time again.

He plays hard until around 10 and then it is morning nap time. I usually just hold him during this nap and
catch up on the DVR.
The morning nap usually lasts for about an hour, so at 11 we play some more. He gets his second 7 ounce bottle at 12 followed by lunch. Lunch usually consists of eating a bite or two of baby food and maybe a bite of something else. This little boy really HATES baby food. He thinks he could live on puffs and crèmes.
After lunch we go on a bike ride, stroll, or I push Ellison around the block on his tricycle. We try to get out of the house during this time if it is nice.

I pump again at 2PM and then heat up Ellison’s 3rd
bottle. He drinks that bottle at
2:30-3:00 followed by nap time. This
nap happens in our bed. I lay down with
him and once he is sleep I lay with him for 10 minutes and then get up. This nap usually last for 1.5 hours. Once up from that nap we play some more until
it is time to start dinner. He gets his
last bottle for the day around 5:30 and eats his “dinner”. He tried grits this past week and actually
ate more than 1 mouth full that is a win in my book. I am really trying to get him to eat “food”
but I fail most of the time. When it
comes to food Ellison is a hard baby.
Andre and I eat dinner the same time Ellison eats his. I really want to make this a priority as
Ellison gets older.
Our nighttime routine starts at 7:30 with a bath. Then Andre reads Ellison a book. After a few hugs and kisses from his daddy
Ellison is ready for bed. I turn on his
white noise and the monitor…get the boppy, my nursing necklace, and sit in the
rocking chair. Ellison nurses for a
little while; most of the time he goes to sleep pretty quickly. After he is asleep I continue to rock him for
10 minutes (yes I time it on my phone).
Then comes the dreaded transfer (I think I hold my breath every
night). I slowly stand up and carry my
sweet sleeping boy over to his crib.
Then I give him a kiss (or ten) right on his head. I tell him that I love him SO much. I turn
him on his belly and lower him down in to the crib. Then I lay his little blanket on his legs and
tip toe out of his room. Once I have his
door closed I breathe again J
From around 8:30-11:00 Andre and I catch up on each other’s
day and just hang out (and I usually end up falling asleep on the couch). At 11 Ellison wakes up and I get him and
bring him to our bed. Andre is a night
owl and stays up until an ungodly hour, so Ellison and I start our night in my
bed together. Ellison wakes a couple
more time to nurse and then we start the day over the next day.
Hopefully the next time I do an update on how our days go it
will look a lot different…and this mama will be getting more uninterrupted
sleep (a girl can wish).

We just moved Dominick to his bedroom. It's so hard. Some nights he does great and will only wake up because he can't find his pacifier and go right back to sleep. Other nights I have to bring him to our room.
ReplyDeleteDominick thinks I could be the next American Idol as well! Everyone says kids are honest...:P
Goodness...bless you! Good luck with the sleeping!!
ReplyDeleteI love hearing how other moms, especially those of babies near O's age, spend their days. Ours looks pretty similar except Owen is dropping a nap. I hope you'll all be sleeping a little better sometime soon!
