Christmas Blog Challenge Day 1: Christmas Traditions

It is the first day of the 12 days of Christmas blog challenge!  Today is all about Traditions...

Christmas in my family comes with lots of tradition (or things we do year after year).  It all starts by going to pick out a tree either the first or second weekend in December.  We would get the tree home and my brother and I would help my mom and dad decorate.  My dad was in charge of the lights and the rest of us were in charge of the decorations.

Then Christmas eve would always start with going out to a family friends house and exchanging gifts and just visiting.  Then it was time for Christmas Eve service at our church.  My brother and I always loved Christmas eve service because during the last song everyone would get candles and light them.  We were fire bugs as children and would always try to get the wax to drip places that it really should not.  Then we would ride around our town to look at Christmas lights.  The Christmas decorations were pretty impressive in our little town and we enjoyed this every year!

After we got home for the evening we would each get to pick one present to open that night.  After that we would put out a Coca Cola and some cookies for Santa.  When we were small my mom would then read us the Night Before Christmas book and we would go to sleep.

From as far as I can remember my brother and I always woke up at around 3AM or 4AM on Christmas to go downstairs to see what Santa left for us. After looking at all of our treasures we would wake out parents.  After about an hour or so we would head back to bed until the morning.

After breakfast the next morning we would open presents!

This year it is going to be totally different because I am married now.  I can not wait to read about all of you guys traditions so I can maybe adopt some of them for ourselves :)

Have a great Monday!

  12. Love your traditions!
It seems fairly common among the people I know that they could only pick one present to open on Christmas eve.
I am thinking ours will be a little different since we are married -- congrats on being newlywed -- J and I were married March 13, 2010 =)

  13. I'm not married but I live with my man ... and my biggest advice is to come up with something special just for the two of you --- whether it's breakfast or what, you need something!
